IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Robert D.
Demont
August 11, 1934 – September 6, 2022
Robert D. DeMont, 88, of Mulberry, Florida, formerly of Lake of the Woods, Indiana, passed away in his
home in September 2022. He was a husband, dad, grandpa, great-grandpa, friend, and neighbor to
many, and will be greatly missed.
Born in 1934 in Richland Center, Indiana, Bob was the son of the late Earl and Glendolyn DeMont. Bob
served in the Indiana National Guard for nearly a decade and spent much of his career as a maintenance
supervisor for Whitehall Laboratories. Shortly after high school he married the love of his life, Freeda
Shively, and together they raised three girls, Karen, Donna, and Janet, in Mishawaka, Indiana. After the
girls were grown, he and Freeda relocated to a lake home in Bremen, Indiana, and enjoyed hosting the
entire family on weekends and holidays.
Upon retiring to Mulberry, Florida, Bob enjoyed spending even more time in his lifelong favorite place:
the great outdoors. Never one to sit still for long, he had numerous hobbies. He enjoyed Notre Dame
football, Western films, and gardening. Bob loved bringing a smile to someone's face, and his wit never
faded. The family could count on him for a dad joke, and he regularly ended a phone call with, "kid, do
me a favor, next time you do something illegal, immoral, or fattening, think of me." He loved the sign
hanging above his door: "Welcome to Grandpa's Place. The Man, The Myth, The Legend."
Bob is survived by his loving wife of 68 years, Freeda DeMont; his daughters, Karen (David) Quick, Donna
(David) Stout, Janet (Dan) Roberts-Mihal; and ten grandchildren and fifteen great-grandchildren. He was
preceded in death by his parents; siblings Richard, Ethel, Margorie, Clarabelle; son-in-law Leo Roberts;
grandson, Joshua Quick; and great-grandson, Kyle Baker.
