IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Robert Ray
Kenaga
October 28, 1920 – February 21, 2022
Robert Ray Kenaga, 101, of Elkhart, peacefully and joyfully joined his Savior in heaven on February 21, 2022. Bob resided in the Hubbard Hill Assisted Living Center in Elkhart.
He was born on October 28, 1920 in Elkhart, IN to the late Noble and Hazel Kenaga. Early in life he accepted Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior and faithfully served Him the rest of his life. On June 21, 1941 he married Gwendolyn Crume, who passed to her heavenly home in 2006. She and Bob are survived by their children, Linda (Gerald) Steinbaugh of Elkhart, Dennis (Vicki) Kenaga of Mishawaka, Marla (Laron) Beyer of Kimmell, and Kirk (Patti) Kenaga of Mishawaka. His heart was also blessed with 9 grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren, and 7 great- great grandchildren. He deeply loved each one of those blessings. After Gwendolyn's passing in 2006, Bob married Lucy Yoder who died in 2020.
Following graduation from Concord High School, Bob attended International Business College in Ft. Wayne, IN, graduating in 1939 with an Associate's degree in finance. After marriage, he began working at Bendix Corporation in South Bend, then was inducted into the Army during WWII, serving in the European theater. Although discharged after the war, he continued serving in the reserves and was released as Master Sergeant.
After Army service, Bob worked in several businesses over the years. He was financial manager and V.P. of Hoosier Cleaners and Laundry in Elkhart; department head at New Yorker Homes; and throughout his active working years he served as a tax preparer and consultant for private citizens. Each day he dedicated his life to family, friends, and his Lord. As his physical body began failing him in the extreme, toward the end of his earthly life, he would often ask, "Why is my Lord delaying my departure?" On February 21, 2022, his Savior answered.
