Obituary

Robert E. Malcolm, age 96, of Elkhart passed away on September 7, 2016 at 4:15 AM in the Elkhart Hospice House. He was born August 10, 1920 to W. Earl and Adah (Plank) Malcolm in Nappanee, Indiana. After graduating from Nappanee High School in 1939, Robert attended Ball State University. In 1942, Robert enlisted in the United States Army Air Corps during World War II and served in the Pacific Theatre where he was awarded the World War II Victory Medal. On May10, 1947, Robert married Jeanette Hapner. She preceded him in death on September 11, 2006. Mr. Malcolm worked for Place and Company and the Carpenters Union Local #413. He was a Master Carpenter and one of his greatest accomplishments was the family home that he designed and built. Robert loved his dog Peanut, farming and gardening, going out to eat, reading, and Westerns. He attended Osolo United Missionary Church. Everyone that knew him loved him and Robert never met a stranger. He is survived by his children, Susan (John Gilbert) Elliott of Elkhart, Dianna (Thomas) Florea of Cassopolis, MI, Tom (Jim Wicks) Malcolm of Chicago, IL and Walkerton, IN, Jim (Nita) Malcolm of Claypool, IN ; eight grandchildren, Michelle (Barry) Meeks, Drew Elliott, Dustin Elliott, Brent Florea, Lisa Ann (Rob) Durbin, Carie (Al) Mondero, Kellie (Tom) Altruda, Brad (Nicole) Malcolm; nine great grandchildren; seven great-great grandchildren; and a brother, George Malcolm of Milford, IN. Mr. Malcolm was preceded in death by his parents; his loving wife, Jeanette; a great-great grandchild, Benjamin Meeks; his siblings, Mary Malcolm, Lucille Mussleman, Alice Long, Sarah Malcolm, Dorothy Rink, Doris Malcolm, John Malcolm, and Don Malcolm. Friends and family will be received on Monday, September 12, 2016 from 1-2 PM at Chapel Hill Funeral Home, 10776 McKinley Highway, Osceola, IN 46561. A funeral service in Mr. Malcolm''s honor will be at 2 PM on Monday, September 12, 2016 with Pastor Mike Settles officiating. Burial will follow in Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Disabled American Veterans, 708 West Pike Street, Goshen, IN 46526, or to the charity of the donor''s choice.
