Robert "Bob" Cloyd Montgomery, a beloved husband, father, brother, and friend, passed away at Elkhart General Hospital on Monday March 31, 2025 at the age of 88. He was born on September 9, 1936, in Cassopolis, Michigan, and was preceded in death by his parents Cloyd and Esther Montgomery, his sister Nourma White, and his son Robert Montgomery, Jr.
Bob's life was one marked by love, devotion, and an unshakable sense of duty. He graduated from Niles High School in 1954 and joined the Marine Corps in 1955, dedicating himself to service with pride and commitment. Sergeant Montgomery was a decorated veteran who served with distinction and his love for the U.S. Marine Corps. remained a central part of his identity and a source of immense pride throughout his life.
Bob married the love of his life, Sun Hui Montgomery, originally from South Korea, in a union that spanned 36 years. Together, they created a home in Elkhart, Indiana, filled with laughter and a sense of belonging.
Bob is survived by his loving wife, Sun Hui Montgomery. He leaves behind his brother, Lee (Donna) Montgomery; his sister, Maryanne Predebon; his daughter, Melissa Leahy and his step-daughter Ranee (Michael) Robinson; his grandchildren: Christopher (Khristina) Castetter, Steven Castetter, Rachel Castetter, Lillian (Eduard Ukolov) Montgomery, Deon Mitchell, Makai Mitchell, Grant (Morgan) Robinson, Adriana (Blake) Upham, Jaylan (Amanda) Robinson, and Ethan (Kaleigh) Robinson, six great grand children and a host of nieces and nephews, family and friends.
A service to celebrate Bob's life will be held at Michiana Korean Presbyterian Church, located at 29400 County Road 10, Elkhart, IN 46514, on Monday April 7, 2025. The service will begin at 10:00 a.m.
Following the service, Graveside U.S. Marine Corps honors will immediately follow at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens, located at 10776 McKinley Highway, Osceola, IN 46561.
Bob will forever be remembered for his strength, compassion, and unwavering dedication to those he held dear. May he rest in peace, embraced by the love and grace he so generously shared throughout his life.
