Obituary

MISHAWAKA - Roger W. Stanifer, 89, of passed away Tuesday, December 19, 2017 at Creekside Village in Mishawaka. The youngest of ten children, Roger was born in London, KY October 7, 1928 to the late Charles and Maude (Blair) Stanifer.
Roger and his family moved to North Liberty, IN when he was in his teens where he met the love of his life, Lillian Spellman. The two were married on December 1, 1949. He was proud to serve his country as a Sgt. in the Marine Corps. Roger was stationed in Cherry Point, NC before setting roots in Osceola, IN. He began his career in the lumber industry at Osceola Lumber Co. He then became a salesman in the wholesale building materials industry and retired from Hager Distributions in 1990. Roger served on the Osceola Town Board for many years and was also a member of the local Kiwanis group.
Roger was an avid golfer and fisherman, enjoying many trips to Canada to fish & traveling to other beautiful destinations to perfect his already outstanding golf game. He was known for his love of gardening, was a member of Four Lakes Country Club, and could be found helping out at Big C Lumber after retirement. Retirement also allowed Roger & his wife to travel often to their favorite place, Arizona, to visit his brother, the desert, & Lake Powell.
Roger is survived by his children, Linda Howell of South Bend, Cindy (Brian) Quist of Osceola, and Ken Stanifer of Indianapolis; grandchildren, Amy (Jon) Calvin, Brett (Chelsee) Howell, Steven Howell, and Aaron Quist, and great-grandchildren, Paisley Howell and Cami Calvin. In addition to his parents, Roger was preceded in death by seven siblings and his beloved wife.
A private family funeral will take place at a later date. Chapel Hill Funeral Home & St. Joseph Valley Memorial Park have been entrusted with handling the final arrangements.
