ELKHART - Ronald (Ron) Carl Johnson, 76, of Elkhart, Indiana went to be with his Lord and Savior on Thursday, December 7, 2017, passing peacefully at his home after a short battle with bladder cancer. Ron was born on August 10, 1941, the 2nd of 4 children, to Carl and Bessie Johnson of Slifer, Iowa. Ron met Margaret Bryant in Havana, Illinois after moving there with his family. They married in June 1963 and moved to Glenwood Springs, Colorado where they lived until 1976. Returning to the Midwest to be closer to relatives led them to Elkhart.
Ron worked in the hotel and hospitality industry for over 40 years, first in the family owned Ranch House Motel, then he worked for Glenwood Hot Springs Lodge and Pool, in Colorado from 1961 to 1976, and finally went on the Ramada Inn of Elkhart until 2001. After his years in hospitality management, he went to work for Elkhart General Hospital in the environmental services department, where he was employed until this past spring. His later responsibilities were maintaining the parking garages while also providing a warm greeting and smile for guests and employees. Ron and his family attended First Baptist Church where he, along with his wife, served as greeters and were involved in their Sunday school class. He played on the church softball leagues and was a big New York Yankees and Denver Broncos fan.
Ron is survived by four children, Darren Johnson of Indianapolis, Tammy Weir of South Bend, Kevin Johnson of West Palm Beach, FL, and Joshua Johnson of Sun Valley, ID; granddaughter, Alexis Quiatchon, and three grandsons, Wesley Weir, Chandler Johnson, and Nathan Johnson. Also surviving are his sister and younger brother. In addition to his parents, Ron was preceded in death by his wife, Margaret and his brother, Mervin Johnson.
Friends may call for visitation from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m., Thursday, December 14, 2017 at Chapel Hill Funeral Home located at 10776 McKinley Hwy., Osceola. Funeral service will be at 10 a.m., Friday, December 15, 2017 also at Chapel Hill. Burial will follow at the Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens Mausoleum.
