IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Rosa Maria
Ewing
July 12, 1935 – February 5, 2023
Rosa Maria Ewing, age 87, of Mishawaka, IN passed away February 5, 2023 with her devoted husband and family by her side. Rosa was born July 12, 1935 in Ruppertsecken, Germany to the late Otto and Anna Maria (Stollhof) Vollet. Her sisters were Thea (Kurt) Kruck and Wiltrude (Pirmin) Dhom (both deceased) and Brigitte (Walter) Korz. Rosa had worked for an American military family in Germany, which enabled her to meet William Ewing who was stationed in Germany while serving in the Air Force. They married on August 25, 1956 in Sembach, Germany. While in the military they lived in various countries and states including Germany, England, Texas and Oklahoma where their children; Gene Ewing (deceased), Steve Ewing, Donald (Ellen) Ewing and Thea (Brad-deceased) Bolinger were born. After retiring from the military they settled in Mishawaka, IN and lived at the same residence for nearly 60 years. Rose, as her friends called her, retired from the Mishawaka City School Food Service after working for 21 years. She was famous for her delicious cookies. Rose's German accent and her genuine smile were two of the things that drew people to her. Rose enjoyed gardening, cooking for the family and taking brisk morning walks. She was also known for her skills on the sewing machine. She was referred to as the "Neighborhood Grandma". She could be seen in the early morning hours, walking around her yard with a tilted coffee cup on her finger enjoying the fruits of her labor. While visiting Rose you could count on being asked "Are you hungry?" Rose was blessed with four grandchildren, Kerri Lillis, Andrew (Sarah) Ewing, Shane (Brittany) Bolinger and Ciara Bolinger and a great grandson Landon. She also had many nieces and nephews as well as extended family. Devoting her life to her family and friends, she was a ray of sunshine that was loved deeply and will be missed by all who knew her.
Services will be held in the chapel at Chapel Hill Funeral Home 10776 McKinley Hwy Osceola, IN 46561 on Wednesday February 15, 2023 at 12:00 pm with visitation prior to from 10:00 am to 12:00 pm.
