Roy Clark Mumford, 87, of Mishawaka, died unexpectedly on Tuesday July 28, 2015 at home. He was born July 6, 1928 in South Bend, to the late Charlie & Irene Mumford.

He was preceded in death by his brothers Norton & Sparkie Mumford and his sister, Betty Ramsey. Surviving is his wife of nearly 67 years, Wanda Lee Mumford; his son, Louis (Nancy) Mumford of Niles, MI; his daughter, Susan (Rick) Caldwell of Hurricane, WV; sisters, Shirley Rockhill of Florida, Edith Mumby of South Bend, Arlene Mroczek of Mishawaka and brother Don (Liz) Mumford of Auburn, IN. Also surviving are his grandchildren, Terry (Linda) Schadler, Robin (Wyatt) Kilmartin, Anna Lee Caldwell and three great-grandchildren.

"Roy was a proud, self-made man who did things his own way. He was nicknamed Duke'' by some, who saw a resemblance & similarity to the late actor, John the Duke'' Wayne." A contractor in the South Bend area, he owned Mumford Construction Company, from which he retired in 1983. Roy enjoyed spending time with family & friends and his beloved dog, Gracie. He was an active member of the Mishawaka Alumni Association and an avid sports fan with a special interest in Notre Dame Football, the Chicago White Sox and the Chicago Bears. "Roy was a great man who will be sadly missed by everyone who knew him."

Funeral Services 2:00 Saturday, August 1 at Chapel Hill Funeral Home, 10776 McKinley Hwy. Friends may call Saturday 1-2pm in the funeral home. Interment in Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens.
