Ruben White, age 84, of Elkhart passed away Wed. Oct. 29, 2014 at Elkhart General Hospital. Ruben was born April 20, 1930 in Tyronza, Arkansas to the late Clarence Alvin and Maude Emma (Sharpe) White. Ruben served his country in the US Army during the Korean War, where he received the Purple Heart in combat. When he returned home from the military, he married the former Ms. Helen Kelley in Tyronza, Arkansas on Dec. 22, 1951. Helen preceded him in death, passing away in 2005.
Surviving are his sons, Roger (Pamela) White and Bob (Annette) White, both of Elkhart, 4 grandchildren; Cory White, Chantel Marsh, Tiffany Farris and Nikki White, and 3 great-grandchildren, Chloe, Giada and Brielle. Also surviving is his brother Gaylon White of Phoenix, Arizona. He was preceded in death by 3 brothers and 4 sisters.
Visitation will be held 2 hours prior to the 2:00 pm funeral service on Saturday, Nov. 1, 2014 at Chapel Hill Funeral Home in Osceola. Interment will follow in Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens, Osceola.
Ruben was employed for many years with Elkhart Welding/Bock Products before his retirement. After retirement, he spent several winters in Arizona with Helen, worked small jobs for his family, and delivered flowers for VanGohs'' flower shop in Elkhart. In his spare time, Ruben enjoyed playing and serving as a caller for BINGO a few times a week. Ruben was a member of McCoy Memorial Baptist Church in Elkhart. He loved being outdoors, working on projects around his home, and spending time with his family and close friend Virginia Roberts.
