Obituary

Ruth Mae (Naragon) Friesner of Elkhart passed away on Sunday February 19th at the Hubbard Hill Retirement Community where she lived. She was 95 and had been in nursing care for 3 years. Prior to that she lived in Assisted Living there and in the Village. Ruth was born on November 1, 1921 to James R. and Dora (Buss) Naragon and grew up on a farm in the rural area near Teegarden. She was one of seven children in her family and her grandfather''s home was part of the area that is now Potato Creek State Park. She was a member of the Pine Creek Church of the Brethren. Ruth graduated from North Liberty High School and that is where she met her husband Leo V. Friesner, Jr. She married Leo on November 1, 1942 just before he was shipped overseas in WWII to serve in the Army Air Corp. During that time she worked as a nanny and did various odd jobs. After Leo returned home they started a family and moved to Osceola where they continued to live and raise their four children. Ruth worked for Bendix Corporation in Mishawaka and for a time she and Leo managed a lumber supply store in Goshen called G & R Salvage. Ruth also worked for Whitehall in Elkhart and retired from there. Ruth could do most anything with her hands. She loved to garden with her husband and always "home canned" her food. She had learned to do this from her mother and while she was in the 4-H Club. She was a good cook and her family loved her homemade "pot pie" (beef and noodles) She also sewed most of her clothing and made outfits for her daughters. She even won an Indiana State Fair Championship Award for a dress she made while in high school. She loved to crochet, embroider, macram and quilt. She made quilts for each of her grandchildren and also crocheted many afghans for family. After retirement she and Leo travelled to Sebring, Florida for the winter months where they enjoyed playing cards and shuffleboard. She also learned paper quilling and sold her items at craft fairs. She wasn''t happy with a project unless it was "just right". She taught her children all of these values and was a wonderful mother, always providing for her family. She will be dearly missed by her family and friends. Preceding her in death were her husband Leo V. Friesner, Jr. and granddaughter Sara E. Hecht. Also her parents James and Dora Naragon and brothers Willard and Wilbur (twins), Gerald, Richard and sisters Genevieve and Gleo. Also several nephews and nieces on both sides of the family. Surviving are her children, Joel (Sue) Friesner; Linda (Larry) Brothers; Teresa (Jeff) Bailey; and Rhonda (Greg) Hecht. Also eight grandchildren Beth, Eric (Heather) Friesner; Paul, Jon (Sydney) Brothers and Matt (Jesse) Brothers; Julie (Matt) Johnson and Jared Bailey; Adam (Maria) Hecht and twelve great grandchildren Madison and Leo Brothers; Phoebe and Fynley Brothers; Johhny, Isabella, Jude and Ivy Bailey; Paxton and Ryland Johnson; Alyssa Dobbs and Shay Hecht.
