Sandra S. Gilbert, age 77 of Osceola, passed away Monday, April 22, 2013 at Memorial Hospital in South Bend. Sandra was born Nov. 18, 1935 in Johnson City, New York to the late Louis W. and Carrie E. (Dixon) Crandall. On June 29, 1957, she married Ted B. Gilbert in Ames, New York. They celebrated 55 years of marriage.
Surviving is her husband Ted of Osceola, and their children, Celeste Dawn (Jim) Gantzler of Morrison, CO, Benjamin James Gilbert of Elkhart, Heather Joy (Matthew) Chambers and Heidi Grace (Michael) Douglass of Greenwood, Indiana. Surviving as well is her sister, Sharon R. (Frank) Strock of Binghamton, NY, and 8 grandchildren; Maya Gilbert, Daniel Douglass, Elijah Douglass, Elizabeth Douglass, Andrew Chambers, Alexandra Chambers, Jesse Gantzler and Jacob Gantzler, along with one great grandson, Jordan Gantzler. Preceding her in death was her son Ted B. Gilbert Jr. in 1973, and her siblings, Donna Crandall, Eunice Guldbeck, Jacqueline Wasson, and David Crandall.
Visitation will be held from 4-8 pm Friday, Apr. 26, 2013 at Chapel Hill Funeral Home in Osceola. Funeral services will be held at 10 am Saturday, Apr. 27, 2013 at Cedar Road Missionary Church in Osceola. Interment will follow in Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens.
Sandra was employed as a nurse for many years in the private sector, a tuberculosis sanitarium, and at a Dr.''s office before her retirement in 1977. She was a longtime member of the Cedar Road Missionary Church in Osceola, and was active with Child Evangelism Fellowship and taught 5 Day Clubs for many years. She also was a member of and active with the mothers of twins club in Colorado, and loved flowers, crossword puzzles, reading and cats. She especially enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren.
