Silver Dollar "Buck" Housand, 76, of Mishawaka died Thursday, August 12, 2010 at Golden Living Center. Born in Mishawaka on December 23, 1933 to Granville and Blanch (Secrest) Housand, and was a U.S. Army veteran, serving during the Korean War. He was a lifetime member of VFW Post #360 in Mishawaka. He married Marlene Schrader on June 28, 1959. A member of First Seventh Day Adventist Church of South Bend, he was an avid NASCAR fan and had competed at the local level, racing his stock car at Mottville, New Paris and South Bend Motor Speedways. Buck is survived by his wife of 51 years, Marlene Housand of Mishawaka; sons, Mark (Debbie) Housand of Osceola; Chuck (Doris) Housand of South Bend and James (Linda) Housand of Elkhart; sister, Hope Gill of Mishawaka; ten grandchildren and twelve great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his brother, Raymond Housand and sisters, Wanda Cowen, Pat VanCamp, Phyllis Heckaman & Thelma Costinett. Services at a later date. Arrangements through Chapel Hill Funeral Home, 10776 McKinley Hwy. Interment in Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens.
