Stephen H. Papoi, 85, of South Bend, died Monday, March 27, 2017 at Wellbrooke of South Bend. The South Bend native was born March 24, 1932 to Stephen and Clara (Lyczynski) Papoi, who have both preceded her in death. On January 5, 1951, Stephen married Phyllis Bayer, who preceded him in death in 1986. He served his country honorably in the United States Army. Stephen worked for Allied Building Products for many years until his retirement. Stephen enjoyed fishing and playing cards. Stephen is survived by his children, Jeffrey Papoi of Lakeville, Karen (Jeff) Andrzejewski-Keiper of Urbana, IL, Stephanie Papoi of South Bend; three grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Phyllis; son Preston Gregory Papoi; grandson, Rene Papoi; brother, Ray Papay; and a sister, Joyce Holmes. Private family services are planned at Chapel Hill Funeral Home, 10776 McKinley Highway, Osceola, IN 46561 with burial to follow in Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens. The family''s preferred memorial is to Center for Hospice, 230 West Catalpa Drive, Mishawaka, IN 46545.
