Steven Lawrence Mail, 56, passed away Friday, September 3, 2010, surrounded by family at St. Joseph Regional Hospital after battling multiple myeloma cancer. Steve was born on August 11, 1954, in Mishawaka to Lawrence and Joan Mail. He was preceded in death by his infant son, Robert Alan Mail. A native of Osceola, IN, Steve graduated in 1972 from Penn High School. He was a dedicated member in good standing of Sheet Metal Workers Union Local No. 20 serving in various capacities over 37 years including shop steward, negotiating committee member, and South Bend area pension plan trustee. He took great pride in the many structures he contributed to, such as Notre Dame Stadium, the South Bend Tribune, and the Golden Dome. Steve played baseball and softball for several years, he was a lifelong Detroit Tigers fan and loved deer hunting, boating, fishing and being with his family. On July 21, 1983, Steve married Deborah Simms, who survives along with sons, Eric and Evan Mail. A beloved son, brother and devoted husband and father, he is also survived by his parents, Lawrence and Joan of Osceola, and sisters, Sandy Mitchell of Bangor, MI and Susan (John) Trawitz of Granger, IN. Steve is also loved by several nieces and nephews and was blessed with many friends. Memorial Services will be held at 7:00PM Tuesday, September 7, 2010 at Chapel Hill Funeral Home, 10776 McKinley Highway, where friends may call from 6-7PM. Interment will be in Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens.
