Susan Horvat, age 83, of South Bend, IN passed away May 29, 2023 at her home. A life resident of the area, she was born August 22, 1939 in South Bend, IN a daughter to the late John and Letha Edstrom. She believed in living life to the fullest with her husband, children and grandchildren. Her love of long car rides, shopping, watching her grandchildren grow up and play sports were some of her favorite things. Also, her love of Notre Dame sports and watching all manner of sports on TV were a big part of the entertainment in her life. Susan was preceded in death by her parents, several siblings and her granddaughter Ashley. She is survived by her husband Martin Horvat whom she wed on March 23, 1983, brother Richard Lane of Niles, MI, sons John Riffel, Jeff (Christine) Riffel, Jim (Angie) Riffel and Kirk (Rebecca) Riffel along with eight grandchildren; Celia, Derrick (Ashley), Zack, Jared, Brianna, Kyle, Caden and Nicholas. She will also be sadly missed by dogs Sophie and Libby. Visitation will be held from 4:00 pm to 6:00 pm on Thursday June 1, 2023 at the Chapel Hill Funeral Home. A celebration of life will be held at 6:00 pm following the visitation. Burial will be at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens during a Private Interment requested by the family.
