South Bend – Susan Alecia Verduin, 65, passed away peacefully on July 23, 2026, at The Center for Hospice, Raclin House in Mishawaka, surrounded by her loving family.

Susan was born on August 14, 1960, to Virginia (Fries) Pierce and the late Chester Pierce. In addition to her father, she was preceded in death by her brother, Brent Pierce, and her sister, Penny Pierce.

Susan leaves behind a family who will forever cherish her memory: her mother, Virginia (Fries) Pierce, her children, Randall Hoffer, Brenda Hoffer, Michael (Stephanie) Verduin Jr., Angela Verduin, and Debra (David) Stump; her beloved grandchildren, Tyler Hoffer, Amelia Hoffer, Christian Haisley, Aerianna Baker, Evan Verduin, Cailee Verduin, Peyton Huber, Dartagnan Campbell, Kal-El Campbell, Aiden Campbell, Jordyn McMillian, and Kenton Stump; and her treasured great-grandson, Jackson, her companion, Jeff Hershberger, with whom she shared many years of friendship and companionship.

She is also survived by her brothers, Benny (Diane) Pierce, Leroy Roy, Todd Pierce, and Chester "Chet" (Kathi) Pierce Jr.; her sisters, Michele (Gary) Ray, Kathy (Joe) Maguire, Mary (Gerald) Morris, and Jennifer (Robert) Miller; along with numerous nieces, nephews, extended family members, dear friends, and coworkers.

Susan graduated from Mishawaka High School and dedicated 36 years of service as a school bus driver for the Penn-Harris-Madison School Corporation. She took great pride in safely transporting generations of students and formed many lasting friendships throughout her career and also took pride in continuing her education by earning college credits through Davenport University.

Outside of work, Susan found joy in tending to her beautiful gardens and flower beds, crocheting, listening to music—especially Fleetwood Mac—watching sunsets at the beach, and welcoming hummingbirds to her yard, enjoyed puzzles, and remodeling projects that allowed her creativity to shine. Above all, she treasured the time she spent with her family, creating lasting memories filled with laughter, love, and togetherness. Her kind heart, warm smile, and unwavering devotion to those she loved will be deeply missed by all who knew her.

A private graveside service will be held at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens in Osceola, Indiana.
