Obituary

Tammy L. Fike, 67, of Mishawaka, Indiana, passed away peacefully on May 18, 2026, surrounded by the love of the family and friends who meant so much to her throughout her life. Born on January 9, 1959, in South Bend, Indiana, Tammy was the beloved daughter of Howard and Millicent (Strunk) Weidner. From the very beginning, Tammy possessed a warm heart, a caring spirit, and a personality that naturally drew people to her. She lived her life with compassion, honesty, humor, and unwavering love for those around her.

Tammy devoted many years of her life to serving others as an X-ray technician at St. Joe Regional Medical Center. She took tremendous pride in her work and cared deeply for both her patients and coworkers. For Tammy, her career was never simply a job, it was an opportunity to comfort, guide, and help others during vulnerable moments in their lives. She especially loved mentoring new technicians entering the field. Many remembered Tammy as someone who would take them under her wing, teach them the right way to do things, and always “tell it like it was.” Her honesty was paired with kindness, and those she mentored appreciated the wisdom, encouragement, and confidence she gave them. Her coworkers became like an extended family to her, and the bonds she built over the years were among her most treasured relationships.

On October 26, 1984, Tammy married the love of her life, Larry Fike. Together they shared a beautiful marriage filled with devotion, laughter, friendship, and countless memories. This year would have marked their 42nd wedding anniversary, a testament to the deep love and commitment they shared. Tammy and Larry built a life centered around family, love, and togetherness, and there was no greater joy in Tammy’s life than being a wife and mother.

Their daughter, Casey, was born on October 1, 1986, and Tammy cherished every moment of motherhood. She was deeply proud of her daughter and loved nothing more than spending time together as a family. Whether it was simple evenings at home, holiday traditions, or family vacations, Tammy treasured every memory they created together. One of her favorite places to visit was Chicago, where countless family trips were filled with laughter, sightseeing, shopping, meals together, and moments that her family will forever hold close to their hearts.

To know Tammy was truly to love her. She had a way of making people feel welcomed, valued, and cared for. She was loving and generous beyond measure, always willing to lend a hand to anyone who needed help. Tammy had a beautiful balance of strength and tenderness; she could be straightforward and honest while also being incredibly compassionate and comforting. People were naturally drawn to her because she made them feel safe, understood, and important.

Family meant everything to Tammy. She loved gathering with those she cared about, whether for holidays, celebrations, or simply spending time together. She especially loved decorating for the holidays and creating traditions that filled her home with warmth and joy. Her family will forever remember the comfort of those gatherings, the beauty she created in every season, and the love that filled every room she entered.

Tammy also found joy in the simple pleasures of life. She loved listening to 70’s music and relaxing to the smooth sounds of jazz saxophone. She enjoyed getting lost in James Patterson novels and spending evenings watching her favorite crime dramas, especially Cold Case and Murder, She Wrote. In her spare time, Tammy owned and operated her own wallpaper business, a reflection of both her creativity and hardworking spirit. She also loved exploring antique stores, searching for hidden treasures and unique pieces that reminded her of times gone by.

What people will remember most about Tammy is how she made them feel. They will remember her infectious laugh that could brighten any room, her warm smile that made everyone feel welcome, and the advice she so freely gave to those she loved. They will remember her honesty, her humor, her generosity, and the way she always showed up for the people who mattered to her. Tammy’s love was constant and unconditional, and her presence brought comfort and joy to countless lives.

Above all else, Tammy will be remembered as a devoted wife, loving mother, caring sister, proud aunt, treasured coworker, and loyal friend. The love she gave so freely will continue to live on in the hearts of all who knew her. Though her family’s hearts are broken by her loss, they find comfort in the memories she leaves behind and in the love that will forever connect them to her.

If they could say one final thing to Tammy, it would be this: “We will miss you more than words could ever express, but because of the love and strength you gave us, we will carry on together. Thank you for every laugh, every hug, every memory, and every moment of love. We will hold you in our hearts forever.”

Tammy was preceded in death by her parents, Howard and Millicent Weidner.

She is survived by her beloved husband, Larry Fike; her cherished daughter, Casey (David) Tyler; her siblings, Kelly and Shelly Weidner; her nephews, Scott and Shawn Hipsher; her niece, Angie Hipsher; and many extended family members, dear friends, and coworkers who will miss her deeply.

Visitation will take place on Tuesday, May 26, 2026, from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at Chapel Hill Funeral Home. A funeral service will immediately follow the visitation. Burial will conclude at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens.
