Teresa Schimizzi, age 103, of Osceola, passed away at 11:25 am Wednesday, February 11, 2009 at the Sterling House in South Bend of natural causes. Teresa was born November 30, 1905 in Southern Italy to the late Frank and Mary (Romeo) Garreffa. In Knoxville, Iowa in 1923, Teresa was united in marriage to Natale Schimizzi. He preceded her in death, passing away in 1992.
Surviving are her sons, Dominic "Don" Schimizzi and his wife Mary of Osceola, and Frank Schimizzi of Mishawaka, along with 4 grandchildren; Ned Schimizzi, Mary Rydberg, Maureen Schimizzi, and Jacqueline Ehlert. Also surviving are 4 great grandchildren and one great-great grandchild. Teresa is also survived by her sisters, Josephine Moore and Carmella Price. Several nieces and nephews survive as well. She was preceded in death by her daughter in law Theresa Schimizzi, her granddaughter Terri Redman, and her siblings Bruno, Joe, Tony, Hiram, Stella, Rose and Frances.
Visitation will be held from 3-8 pm Friday, February 13, 2009 at Chapel Hill Funeral Home in Osceola, where a Rosary will be recited at 3:30 pm. There will be visitation at the church one half hour prior to the Mass of Christian burial at 11:30 am Saturday, February 14, 2009 at Queen of Peace Catholic Church with Father Daniel Scheidt presiding. Interment will follow in Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens, Osceola.
Teresa was employed for several years at the Uniroyal Corporation in Mishawaka, before becoming a homemaker for many years. She enjoyed gardening, crocheting, and baking for her family. She spent her entire life as a dedicated wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother to her family, and put them first in everything she did.
In her memory, donations may be given to Queen of Peace Catholic Church, of which she was a member.
