Thelma Maxine Lutts, age 85, formerly of Elkhart, passed away at Regency Place Nursing Home in South Bend on Saturday, March 14, 2009 of natural causes. Thelma was born April 9, 1923 to the late Charles C. and Elta M. (Bates) Wagner in Three Rivers, Michigan. On August 10, 1947 in Vistula, Indiana, the former Ms. Wagner married Mr. Wilson R. "Pork" Lutts. They were married 36 years before his death in 1983.
Surviving is her daughter, Patricia Ann (Larry) Windsor of Mishawaka, 4 grandchildren, Steve (Sue) Windsor of Mishawaka, Michelle Werntz of Mishawaka, Teresa (Adam) Barney of Lincoln, Nebraska, and Dave (Nancy) Windsor) of Elkhart. Also surviving is one step-granddaughter, Catanna Windsor of Elkhart. Thelma is also survived by 10 great-granddaughters, 2 great-grandsons, 1 great-great granddaughter and 2 great-great grandsons.
Visitation will be held 2 hours prior to the 2:00 p.m. funeral services on Thursday, March 19, 2009 at Chapel Hill Funeral Home in Osceola. Interment will follow in Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens.
Thelma was a graduate of Constantine High School in Michigan. After her husband passed away, Thelma was employed by the Burger Dairy Store on Bristol Street in Elkhart for over 17 years as a baker. Thelma enjoyed her job and the people she met during the many years of employment there. In her spare time, Thelma enjoyed helping others, and crocheting blankets and dish cloths. Thelma was also a former member of the VFW Ladies Auxiliary.
