Velma Jean Adkins, age 78, of Osceola, passed away at her home on October 18, 2011. Velma was born December 21, 1932 in Springfield, TN. She was preceded in death by her parents, Howard and Olean Roberts. ON December 22, 1951, Velma was united in marriage to Julian P. "Poole" Adkins. They celebrated 59 wonderful years together.

Poole survives, along with their children, Dewayne Adkins (fiance Tina Bouma) of Elkhart, David Adkins (Donna) of Osceola, Theresa Brown of Springfield, TN, Debbie (Fern) Jones of Elkhart, Sheila (Kent) Leazenby of Mishawaka, Pam Adkins (fianc Mike Estes) of Elkhart, and Peggy (Garry) Stump, of Elkhart. Also surviving are 8 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren, as well as her sisters, Faye Pitt of Springfield, TN, and Judy Bunch of Russelville, KY. Velma was preceded in death by her son Ronald Dale Adkins, 3 brothers, and 4 sisters.

Visitation will be held from 4-7 pm Friday, Oct. 21, 2011 at South Side General Baptist Church, 1615 S. Spring St. Mishawaka, IN. Funeral services will be held at the Church at 2:30 pm Sat. Oct. 22, 2011, with interment to follow in Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens, Osceola.

Velma was employed by Nyloncraft in Mishawaka for a few years, prior to becoming a homemaker. She babysat and was a Nanny to many babies and children throughout the years. She enjoyed working in her yard, planting flowers, bird watching, and reading.

In her memory, donations may be made to the Heartland Hospice.
