ELKHART – Velma Sue, 85, passed away on February 20, 2018 in Elkhart. Sue was born March 21, 1932 in Beach Grove, TN to the late John and Bertie (Anderson) Green. Sue was wed to her beloved husband, A.J., on May 5, 1950 in Rossville, GA until his passing January 11, 2005. After 27 years, Sue retired from Miles Laboratories. She was also a member of the Word of Life Fellowship on Willard Road in Elkhart since 1965.  Sue was a fabulous cook. She was also a talented seamstress. She made clothing for her husband and all four of her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren when they were young.  Sue was a dedicated mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and a friend to all. Her children would describe her as the best mom in the world!  Anyone who knew Sue will miss her dearly. Sue is survived by her children, Ronald (Vickie) Gortney, Chris (Pamela) Gortney, Rita Ball, and Doris (Jim) Stewart; brothers, Mitchell and Donnie Green;8 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren, and 1 great-great-grandchild. In addition to her parents and husband, Sue was preceded in death by her sisters, Betty Elmore and Joyce Byrd; brothers, John, Earl, and Wilmer Lee Green, and one grandchild.
