Obituary

Velora J. Gang, 88, of Crown Point, Indiana and formerly of Elkhart, passed away Wednesday October 14, 2015 at Colonial Nursing Home in Crown Point. She was born January 22, 1927, in Elkhart, Indiana, to Robert A. and Hazel (Macumber) Crussemeyer. On December 21, 1946, in Elkhart, Velora married Richard D. Gang, who preceded her in death June 28, 1991. She grew up in a large family and when young she developed polio in her leg, but it never kept her from being an active wife, mother, grandmother & great-grandmother. Velora''s family was important to her. She worked in Elkhart as a telephone operator, a sales clerk at Burnstein''s, a bookkeeper for Weis Mfg., at Burger Dairy, and in Crown Point at Dollar General. Velora canned & froze foods from their garden and she liked playing games of all kinds with everyone. She attended exercise classes at the Civic Center in Crown Point and enjoyed crosswords, singing old songs and relaxing in the sun. Velora is survived by a son Ronald (Joan) Gang of Crown Point, IN ; son-in-law, Bernard Schut of Kalamazoo MI; sister, Imogene Kiebel of Elkhart; sisters-in-law: Shirley (Gang) Rhodes of Naples FL; Alice Gang of Glendale AZ; four grandchildren: Katherine (Marc) Jackett, Jeffrey (Angela) Gang, Adam (Amy) Schut, Kimberly (Brian) McDowell; eight great-grandchildren: Sarah, Brandon, Johnathon, Lindsey, Ariana, Chloe, Samantha and Sydney plus many nieces & nephews. She was preceded in death by her daughter, Debra (Gang) Schut; four sisters, Wauneta (Gary, late) Stout, Helen (Doug, late) Stout, Patricia (Robert, late) Lavery and Barbara (Jessie, late) Jernigan; four Crussemeyer brothers, Richard (Helen, late), Robert, Henry (Elfriede, late), and Ralph; brothers-in-law, Robert Gang and Roger Rhodes and her sister-in-law, Marian Gang. Velora was a 1945 graduate of Elkhart High School and attended the Elkhart Church of the Brethren. Funeral Service 3:00 Monday October 19, 2015 at Chapel Hill Funeral Home, 10776 McKinley Hwy. where friends may call prior to services, from 1-3pm. Velora will be entombed in Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens with her husband, Richard. The family''s preferred memorial is Colonial Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, c/o Activities Director, 119 N.
