Vernice Jean Stone -Ward of Jimtown, IN. passed away at the age of 91 on Monday, September 21, 2020. Vernice was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Howard C. Stone.

She is survived by her daughters, Sandy (Michael) Magyar of Elkhart, Janet Stone of Mishawaka, IN, and Jane Stone of Scotsdale, AZ.;grandchildren Todd (Holly) Magyar, Jenny Magyar, Josh (Rachel) Magyar, Laura (Samuel) Bailey, Candice (Todd) Brown, Andrew (Andrea) Woods, and Michael Hamby; 14 great grandchildren; 3 great great grandchildren; and her many nephews, nieces, cousins, in-laws, and many dear friends.

She grew up in Jim town and was a lifelong resident of the Baugo Township.  She loved to play bingo and go to the casino.  She was a fisherman and a half!  A wonderful homemaker she enjoyed preparing amazing meals for her family.

When the tornado hit in 1968 Vernice took action in the form of feeding those affected, and the ones that came to help.  She gathered people at the then Jimtown Methodist Church and cooked up meals to serve, along with offering comfort to everyone.  When town officials thought that was not feasible, she changed their minds for them.  She lived her life by what Louis CK later quoted; "The only time you look in your neighbor's bowl is to make sure that they have enough. You don't look in your neighbor's bowl to see if you have as much as them."

Vernice did everything with dedication and passion. She was greatly admired by all who knew her for the way she lived life to the fullest.

Please join us as we celebrate the life of Vernice with a visitation on Tuesday September 29, 2020 from 4:00 pm until a 6:00 pm service at Chapel Hill Funeral Home 10776 McKinley Highway Osceola, Indiana 46561.  Pastor Bob Vale will be performing the service.
