Obituary

Vernon Leighton Cornwall, age 83, went to be with our Lord on Sunday, April 10, 2011. Vernon was born September 3, 1927 in South Bend, Indiana to the late George and Alice (Johnson) Cornwall. Preceding him in death as well were his sisters Velma Mae, Vera "Maxine" Bergeron, and Evanda Marie "Susie" Snider. On June 15, 1957, he married Janice Werntz who survives.Surviving as well is their son, Brian Cornwall of Mishawaka, and their grandson Chris Cornwall of Union, MI. Vernon is also survived by his siblings Violet Ruby Farver, Verda "Peg" (husband, Jack) Curtis, and Donald (wife Bernita) Gentry, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Vernon also leaves behind many friends in the Masonic Lodge.Visitation will be held one hour prior to the 2:30 pm funeral service on Thursday, April 14, 2011 at Chapel Hill Funeral Home in Osceola. Interment will follow in Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens.
Vernon served his country during WWII in the U.S. Army and was honorably discharged in 1946. He was employed for many years as a truck driver, retiring from Trans Tech in South Bend in 1992. Mr. Cornwall was also a music teacher and member of Hawaiian guitar clubs in Winchester, IN and Joliet, IL and played in several local bands, playing Big Band, Hawaiian, and Dixieland style music.
At Vernon''s request, there are to be no flowers sent to the viewing. Friends may donate to their favorite charity in his memory instead.
