Obituary

SOUTH BEND – Virgil G. Tallman, 96, passed away peacefully in the early morning of Thursday, May 10, 2018. Mr. Tallman was born July 12, 1921 to the late Jessie and Estella Tallman in St. Louis, Missouri. Virgil was wed to Lorraine Martin in 1941 until her passing in 1946. He was then united in marriage to Lanette Griffith on May 30, 1951 and they celebrated nearly 65 years together until her passing on November 17, 2015. Virgil honorably served his country in the United States Army as a technician for the 1897th Aviation Battalion. He retired from Bendix/Allied Signal after 35 years. Mr. Tallman was a past member of Albright Methodist Church. He loved to fish, travel to Arcadia, Florida with Lanette in the winter, square dance, and in his later years he enjoyed playing poker. He was also known for his excellent woodworking skills. His family has fond remembrances of the hand crafted booster seats made for his grandchildren. He had a great sense of humor and will be truly missed. Virgil is survived by his grandchildren, Lucretia Sellers of Mishawaka, IN, Richard Tallman II of Bristol, IN, Sandra Christy, Deni Marie Sellers of Goodyear, AZ, and Melissa Weller of South Bend, IN; great-grandchildren, Frances Humphrey, Kaitlin Torzewski, Jessica Tallman, Jayson Tallman, Andrew Christy, Lacey Morbach, Skylar Sellers, Ashley Nieves, Victoria Sellers, Brandon Weller, Borias Miller, Solan Miller, Ryan Williams, and Daniel Current, as well as 13 great-great-grandchildren. In addition to his parents and previous wives, Virgil was preceded in death by his son Richard Tallman and by his brothers, Orville and Sterling Tallman. Chapel Hill Funeral Home is entrusted with Mr. Tallman's arrangements.  Private services for Mr. Tallman will be held at a later date.
