February 8, 1929 – December 31, 2022
Virgil C. Voreis, age 93 and a lifelong resident of Granger, IN passed away in his sleep at Chapman Place in Ft. Wayne, IN December 31, 2022. Virgil was born February 8, 1929 to Ralph C. Voreis Sr. and Ethel Mae (Emigh) Voreis in Washington Township. He graduated from Mishawaka High School in 1948 and proudly served our country with the Indiana National Guard retiring after 38 years as a Chief Warrant Officer. He was reactivated to duty to support Operation Desert Storm and served his community for 27 years as a St. Joseph County Deputy. Virgil married Lois Jean Langley on June 7, 1952 and celebrated 61 years of marriage until her death in 2013. He passed his love of fishing on to his three children, seven grandchildren and nine great grandchildren. An avid gardener, he enjoyed sharing his harvests with friends and family. He loved his rabbits and spent 70 years raising, breeding and showing his rabbits out of Double V Rabbitry. Active in the 4H fair, he spent 50 years enjoying his duties there. Virgil is preceded in death by his loving wife Lois Jean, parents Ralph and Ethel Voreis, two brothers Ralph Jr. And Clifford Voreis, sister LaVonda DeBruyne, two nephews Bobby Voreis and Michael Romeu, niece Peggy McMurray, grandsons Ryan and Nick Voreis and most recently his son Dennis Voreis in September. Loving survivors include sister Glennadean Romeu of Mishawaka, son Richard Voreis of North Liberty, daughter Cindy (Meleah) Voreis of Huntington, grandchildren Mariclar (Brian) Hall of Castle Rock, CO, Brian (Jelena) Blocker of Griffith, IN, Brett (Lucy) Voreis of North Liberty, IN, Josh (Chrissy) Voreis of Granger, IN, Rick Voreis of Osceola, IN, six nieces and five nephews as well as nine great grandchildren. We mourn the loss of this kind man, he touched many lives and will be missed. Services entrusted to Chapel Hill Funeral Home 10776 McKinley Hwy Osceola, IN 46561. Visitation will be Wednesday January 11, 2023 from 3 – 7 pm, and again January 12, 2023 from 9-10 am with services following at 10:00 am. Memorials can be made to St. Joseph County 4H Fair Scholarship Fund 5117 S. Ironwood Rd. South Bend, IN 46614 and the Homeward Bound Animal Welfare Group PO Box 204 Mishawaka, IN 46546.
