Obituary

Elkhart. Warden D. Harms, age 93, died at 12:00 noon, on Wednesday, July 3,
2013, at Hubbard Hill Estates, from natural causes. Ward was born June 28, 1920, in Elkhart to David and Edna (Woodman) Harms. He married Noreen Albert March 8, 1942, in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina; she died on June 29, 2005.

He is survived by four children: Ronna (David) Swartz of Nappanee, Greg
(Linda) Harms of Durham, NC, Jacquelin Harms of South Bend,
and Mary K. (Dennis) Weaver of Mishawaka; seven grandchildren: Paul Swartz,
Andrew (Christina) Sekora, Jennifer (Edward) Krattli, Sally (Scott) Johnson,
Nathan (Jennifer) Harms, Michelle (Allen) Richards, and Dana Weaver; eight
great-grandchildren: Stephanie Yoder, Sarah Sekora, Katelyn Harms, Meghan
Johnson, Colin Sekora, Connor Harms, Mia Weaver, and McKenzie Weaver; and
three sisters: Shirley Linder of Goshen, JoAnn (Conrad) Stephens of Greenville,
WI, and Doris Lee (Lee) Hoyt of Goshen. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Noreen, and his sister, Jane Miskin.

Ward graduated from Elkhart High School in 1938 and attended Wabash College.
He was a career Army and Air Force pilot for 27 years, serving in World War II
and the next 22 years together with his family around the U.S. and Japan, plus
several overseas postings on his own. He retired in 1967. He was a member of Bristol United Methodist Church and was often found teaching a Sunday School class and singing in the choir. His hobbies included: Barbershop singing with "The Valleyaires" of South Bend and Mishawaka; being an avid Cubs fan, golfer, and bowler; as well as doing some art projects such as making various stained glass objects.

Visitation will be held on Monday, July 8, 2013, at 10:00 a.m. in Chapel Hill Funeral Home, 10776 McKinley Hwy., Osceola, followed immediately by the funeral service at 11:00 a.m. The Rev. Fred Stayton will conduct the service. Inurnment will be at a later date in Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens, Osceola
