Wayne E. Stewart, 89, of Elkhart, passed away on Wednesday, December 09, 2009 in Golden Living Center, Elkhart. Wayne was born on August 17, 1920 in Elkhart to the late Verl and Florence (Ister) Stewart. On July 22, 1950, he married Stella Johnson. She passed away on February 12, 1988.
He is survived by his first wife, Betty (Andrews) Dunnuck along with one daughter, Janet (David) Bickel of Elkhart; three grandchildren, Jeffry (Tonya) Bickel, Randy (Suzanne) Bickel and Becky (Vince) Miller and 11 grandchildren. He is also survived by three brothers. Elvin (Doris) Stewart, Dick (Mary Ellen) Stewart and Melvin (Shirley) Stewart. He is preceded in death by a sister and two brothers.
Wayne retired from Excel of Elkhart after 38 years of service. After retirement, he worked for his brother''s companies for several years. He was an avid sportsman and loved fishing and hunting. He also bowled and pitched horshoe for many years. He enjoyed playing cards with friends and family. He was member of the Elkhart Moose Lodge #599 and the Elkhart Eagles.
A memorial service will be held at 2:00 pm, Saturday, December 12, 2009 in Chapel Hill Funeral Home, 10776 McKinley Highway, Osceola.
In lieu of flowers the family request memorial donation be made to the Elkhart County Humane Society, 54687 County Road 19, Elkhart, IN 46507.
