IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Wayne
Weaver
June 16, 1929 – December 23, 2022
Wayne Adam Weaver, 93, of Hubbard Hill Estates, passed peacefully on December 23 rd . He was the loving husband of Nancy for 55 years; they resided in Elkhart and enjoyed a happy and devoted life together. After serving over three decades with Weyerhaeuser, Wayne retired; at this time he and Nancy moved to Brentwood Retirement community where they resided for 18 years, their final residence was at Hubbard Hill Estates where they settled in 2019. Wayne was born in Millersburg, on June 16 th , 1929, to Milo and Ella Weaver; he was blessed with six siblings and together they grew up on the family farm and collectively remained close as each moved away from the homestead. Wayne had an adventuresome spirit, at the young age of sixteen he seized an opportunity of a lifetime by boarding a ship to Greece as a proud Seagoing Cowboy. The Seagoing Cowboys were men and boys who volunteered after World War II to tend the livestock shipped by the United Nations Relief and Rehabilitation Administration and the Heifer Project to war-torn devastated countries. Like Wayne, some sought adventure, and some sought to serve people whose lives had been torn apart by war. Today known as The Heifer International, this wonderful foundation launched by young men (like Wayne) is still a strong force in helping people to live a life free from hunger and poverty. There was not a day that went by that he did not reflect on this trip to Greece which presented an impactful change on his life. Wayne served in the United States Army as an MP, stationed at Fort Leavenworth. His service was an honor that he talked about frequently, there was constancy in keeping our country and our freedom close to his heart. He had a great respect for the American flag and those who served in the military; he always had tearful eyes when he saw flags waving in the wind. Wayne and Nancy respectfully supported The American Legion and the DAV; they always attended patriotic functions, parades, picnics, and loved celebrating the 4 th of July holiday. Wayne enjoyed many trips that he took with Nancy. A few places they visited include Nova Scotia, New Zealand, Australia, Hawaii, and their special favorite, Bar Harbor, Maine. Wayne developed an interest in photography in the early 1970's; he was passionate and loved to share his collection of photos and videos with family and friends. Wayne also had a love of steam engines and trains, and could listen to albums of steam engine whistles for hours. He enjoyed working as a fireman on the Pumpkinvine Railroad, where he had the opportunity to stoke the steam engine with coal and hear the train whistle that brought him much delight. The Pumpkinvine offered weekend excursions from Middlebury to Shipshewana back in the late 1970's. In later years wherever Wayne and Nancy resided, they were always known as a happy and loving couple. Their kindness and gratitude were noted by their caregivers, the staff and the nurses that were fortunate to share in their presence and assist them in time of need. Wayne was preceded in death by his loving wife, Nancy and five siblings. Surviving are children, David Weaver (Teri), Osceola, IN,; Doug Weaver, Brooksville, FL; Dale Weaver (Pam), Granger, IN; Lynn Weaver, Mottville, MI; Kelly Weaver Plainfield, IL, and sister Madene Balsley Bremen, IN. Six grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren. Visitation will be on Friday, December 30 th , from 1:00pm - 2:00pm; funeral services will follow directly thereafter at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens & Funeral Home (Osceola, IN).
