Obituary

Willadene McFarland, 84, of South Bend, went to be with her Lord and Savior on Tuesday afternoon, April 5, 2016, in her home. She was born at home in South Bend on December 22, 1931, the daughter of Dewey and Martha (Ward) Kesler. On June 25, 1948 in South Bend, Willadene married Joseph McFarland, who preceded her in death on June 3, 2008 after almost 60 years of marriage. In 1995, she retired from Koszegi Industries as a quality controller. She attended various churches and Bible study groups, most recently First Baptist Church in Mishawaka and her Bible was "well-worn". Willadene always loved to go fishing, especially with her husband. At age 65 she taught herself how to use a computer and began researching her family genealogy, a favorite pastime from then on. She also enjoyed button collecting, flower gardening, and feeding the birds & various creatures in her yard. Willadene and her eldest daughter would crochet leprosy bandages to benefit people in Vietnam who suffered from the disease. Devoted to her family & friends, she cherished the time spent with her "great-grandbabies" and will be greatly missed. In addition to her parents & husband, Willadene was also preceded in death by her daughter, Cathleen Wolfe; granddaughter, Deanna Johnson; great-grandson, Gabriel Ritter; brothers, Bob, Dale, & Freddie Kesler and her sister, Sharon Thompson. She is survived by five children, Georgia Glover of South Bend, Dewey (Rebecca) McFarland of Mishawaka and Patricia Schroeder, Joy Alexander and Robert (Karen) McFarland, all of South Bend; her sister, Loraine Kesler of South Bend; 12 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren.
